The Story

The Schnauzer, old Deutsch race, seems to represent the physical and moral rigour.

Although having very old origins, Schnauzers were recognized like a race with whole share only at the end of the last century, in Germany, by the foundation of the PSK (Pinscher Schnauzer Klub).

Testimonys of the first selectors tell the history of Schnauzer and its evolution.

The word used in the beginning to indicate this type of dog is " Pinscher " which, translated from German, means Terrier. The breeders of the last century began a long work of selection between the various types of Pinscher, which according to their size, their hair and their use by the man, were divided into different and distinct races. It is only at the beginning of the 20th century that Pinschers with hard hair were called Schnauzers because of their characteristic bearded muzzle and man with a moustache. Indeed, hitherto, one spoke only about Deutsche Kurzhaarige Pinscher (with short hair).

Of a mould, the standard, from which, according to certain stock breeders, the miniature (Zwergschnauzer) and the giant (Riesenschnauzer) were selected, the German stock breeders always trie to keep the type and in the same time they don't think about the size.

As for miniature Schnauzer , it officially appears in Germany in 1890, but it is only in 1900 that the first typical subjects are high. The race was spread everywhere in Europe, and particularly in Europe. It is interesting to note that at the beginning of the century, the size and the color were not yet well fixed. One found indeed dogs black and yellow, black-red, yellows, yellow straw, yellow-red, black and fire, gray and yellow, deer.
